Mediterranean Renaissance: Art and Literature
Society, culture, heritage
Social Science and Humanities
Art Design and Media
The Renaissance stems from the encounter of the rediscovery of antiquity and the geographical and intellectual expansion of civic life, from the encounter of the eastern Greek culture with the western Latin tradition, from the fall of Constantinople (1454) and the discovery of the Indias; from the recovery of the classical world with Petrarch and Erasmus to the mathematical construction of the new future of Luca Pacioli, Copernicus and Kepler, from Savonarola to Luther: it encompasses the very heart of the European cultural tradition and it is essential as a founding moment of our cultural heritage.
This BIP offers a reassessment of the European Renaissance as a basis to rebuild or cultural foundations both in terms of its internal dynamics, as in view of the cultural and geographical links between the mainland and the Mediterranean Sea.
