LA-ICP-MS allows chemical analyses (in solution) of 90% of the elements of the periodic table by either ICP-AES or ICP-MS. 
It also allows the direct analysis of solids by coupling a laser ablation with the ICP-MS apparatus. This notably allows the realization of semi-quantitative elemental mappings.
