The course will provide an overview of the current research in Korean studies in various disciplines like History, Society and Language. The course will be followed by a Summer School, in which students will apply their newfound knowledge to their own research and present their findings, contributing to the development of Korean Studies in Europe.

The physical mobility section of the BIP will take place between  25th - 29th May 2026, in Rome, Italy.

The on-site part of the course will be structured as follows:

  • On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, students will attend lectures delivered by professors, each covering their respective topics within Korean Studies. These sessions will include a keynote speech, offering valuable insights into the latest research trends and significant developments in the field. Following the lectures, students will participate in mentoring sessions within small groups, where they will receive personalized guidance on their academic work and career development.
  • In the afternoons, students will present their research to their peers and professors, followed by discussions aimed at fostering critical thinking and deepening their understanding of the subject matter. This will allow for an exchange of ideas and constructive feedback, enhancing their academic growth. On Wednesday, students will have the opportunity to engage in a field trip or cultural experience, providing them with a hands-on exploration of the local context related to Korean Studies. This blend of academic learning, interactive mentoring, and cultural immersion aims to create a rich, interdisciplinary educational experience for all participants.

The course will run online on a weekly basis from 2nd March until 4th May 2026. The program of the virtual part is the following:

  • Week 1 (2 March 2026): Korean History I
  • Week 2 (9 March 2026): Korean History II
  • Week 3 (16 March 2026): Korean Religion I
  • Week 4 (23 March 2026): Korean Religion II
  • Week 5 (30 March 2026): Korean Society I
  • Week 6 (6 April 2026): Korean Society II
  • Week 7 (13 April 2026): Korean Literature I
  • Week 8 (20 April 2026): Korean Literature II
  • Week 9 (27 April 2026): Gender in Korea
  • Week 10 (4 May 2026): North Korea
